In a rampage along Jerusalem’s crowded Jaffa Street thoroughfare, a bulldozer hoisted and overturned a packed bus, then extended its shovel and plowed into several vehicles and pedestrians. One cut a woman driver in half. The bulldozer driver was tackled and shot dead by two policemen opposite the national broadcasting center. The terrorist was a Palestinian living in one of the Arab villages of Jerusalem and therefore entitled to move freely around Jerusalem with a resident’s ID.
Jerusalem was placed on high terrorist alert as emergency teams and ambulances evacuated trapped victims in the bus and crushed cars.
The attack, on the junction of Jaffa and Sha'arie Yisreal streets, set off a panic in the area. Dozens of people ran through the streets to flee the scene of the attack as a car was still stuck under the bulldozer. Police said it was unclear how many people were in the trapped vehicle.
The bulldozer was apparently being used for construction work on the Jerusalem light rail project.
